Modern Scouting: How Digital Tools Can Transform Your Game
In today’s issue of football progression path I’m going to talk about the role of digital scouting tools.
The traditional way has always been the scout’s trusty black book with pen and paper. This method of scout reports can still be effective, but the modern reality is that you want to share, resurface and analyse your insights.
Most people don’t know where to start with digital tools, and when they do they overcomplicate things.
The most effective digital scouting tools are the ones that are easy to use, searchable, and shareable.
Keep your personal scouting system simple with these digital note taking tools:
- Notion
- Apple Notes
- Obsidian
Searchable & Safe
The biggest positive about using a digital tool is that you’re able to search for names, keywords and fixtures.
There have been countless times where I’ve been looking for a player from a fixture years ago. There have also been times where my notebook has got wet through when live scouting. Your notes are backed up, safe and searchable with the digital tools.
Also, if you’re like me, and your handwriting is very illegible digital note taking systems ensure all your insights are readable.
Shareable
Whether you’re working in a club already, or are looking to build a scouting online portfolio your insights need to be shared.
Digital tools allow you to export, upload, and even create websites out of your reports. This can’t be achieved with pen and paper. Rather than having to re-write notes from your notebook to another tool, you can keep everything online through a digital method.
An online portfolio can thrive when through you’re sharing your digital scout reports.
Notion The Game Changer
Notion has changed the game for me, and many other scouts.
It works as there are so many brilliant features to streamline your whole scouting process. From bespoke dashboards, seamless team collaboration, customised templates and beautiful databasing. It has all the features anyone could wish for in a personal or professional scouting system.
If you’re looking to get started it’s completely free, and I have a free scouting tool which will get the ball rolling for you.
However, if you’re wanting more help with Notion I have created Pro Scout Edge. It’s a Notion tool created and tested by professional scouts. The tool has been created using 6+ years of football industry experience making this the best tool for your scouting needs.
Ultimately if you’re working as a scout or have aspirations to become one, utilising digital tools will help you on your journey.
Thanks for taking the time to read this week’s edition of Football Progression Path.
